I never really had the urge to photograph people. I don't want to be a voyeur; I don't dare to ask; I don't want to shoot unasked; I don't want posed pictures — blah blah blah — plenty of good excuses not to.
And still, there were situations where 1) there was no getting around the people, and 2) the people themselves became so stylised into an art object within the situation that it was less about photographing a person than about the scene.
And so a rather special series of characters came together — each one so singular that, together, they too make up a sound of the world…
